Zone Overview

Area 05 is the Finnish territory on the western side of the border โ€” your starting zone in Road to Vostok and the safest region in the game. It serves as your base of operations throughout the entire run: traders, shelters, quest givers, and the primary loot economy all exist here. Mastering Area 05 is the foundation for everything that follows.

The zone features dense mixed forest terrain, abandoned agricultural buildings, a functioning village settlement (the hub), and the industrial Shipyard complex to the north. Terrain is navigable but disorienting without map knowledge โ€” the dense treelines make it easy to loop back on yourself. Learn the major landmarks early.

Area 05 has no permadeath. Dying here costs you only your carried inventory. This makes it an ideal zone to learn the game's mechanics, test weapons, and practice combat before facing the far more dangerous Border Zone.

Village Hub

Village is the social and economic centre of Area 05. Located in the southern-central portion of the zone, it is your first destination on every run and your primary return point. Village contains:

Village itself has low Bandit presence โ€” enemies rarely spawn directly in the settlement. However, the forest approaches to Village have predictable Bandit patrol paths. Learn the two main entry corridors (south path and east treeline path) and their patrol timings to avoid unwanted engagements on the way home.

What is Area 05 in Road to Vostok?

Area 05 is the Finnish side of the border โ€” your starting zone. It contains the Village hub with traders, multiple shelter locations, Bandit enemies, and the primary loot circuits for early and mid-game progression.

Where is the Village hub in Area 05?

Village is located in the southern-central portion of Area 05. It is the first major landmark you encounter and contains the Generalist trader, Doctor NPC, and your default starting shelter.

What enemies are in Area 05?

Area 05 is primarily patrolled by Bandits โ€” low-to-medium threat scavengers. The northern sections near the Shipyard have higher Bandit density and occasional Guard presence near the border approach.

How do I get from Area 05 to the Border Zone?

The Border Zone is accessed via the northern section of Area 05, through the Shipyard area. You need Border Zone access unlocked through Generalist quests before the crossing becomes available.

Where are the best loot spots in Area 05?

The Abandoned Farm (southeast), Forest Northwest Outpost, and Shipyard approach buildings have the highest container density in Area 05. The Shipyard itself has excellent loot but elevated enemy difficulty.

Can you die permanently in Area 05?

No. Area 05 does not have permadeath. If you die in Area 05 you lose only the items you were carrying at the time of death. Your shelter storage and saved progress are retained.
